Now the third largest winery in the state of Illinois, the idea of White Owl actually began from a home winemaking kit. Brian’s neighbors gave his father the kit for Christmas. The two became so interested in wine that they began taking wine classes. By 1999 they had won over 35 international awards as private wine-makers. In the Autumn of 1999, Brian and his wife, Joy left their jobs and moved home to start the winery with Brian's parents.
