In keeping with the resurgence of businesses in downtown St. Joseph, MO, the Hunterland Antique Mall, long a fixture on the South Belt Highway, has recently relocated to the heart of the city. Specifically, it is now located at 528 Edmund St.

"The Chamber of Commerce did a ribbon cutting for us on Oct. 10 but we actually moved in on Sept. 15," said Rose Mary Seuell, co-owner of the mall along with Karen Eaton and James Wood.
"It's great down here, we are getting new people from downtown as well as our regulars," Seuell said. "Our building used to be a Katz Drug Store back in the day, but now it's been completely renovated."

Hunterland Mall had been located on the South Belt Highway since it opened in 2009, first operating under the name "Hinterland Mall." Seuell said that when the original owner sold it to her in 2012 she took a poll of the vendors who decided to change the name to "Hunterland" so, while different, it still retained some of the old name.

"We have 65 vendors here," she said of the new location. "We're smaller but better. We retained most vendors from the old location, they just don't have multiple booths like they used to," Seuell said.

While Seuell recognizes that some antique and vintage businesses may be seeing a slump in sales, "we're not having any trouble."

As far as her personal booth goes, "I carry everything. I see what sells and then go from there," she said.

Downtown St. Joseph in recent years has taken on a new look and feel of its own. Old department store buildings have been converted to loft apartments for those who want to experience living in an urban setting. A wide variety of restaurants and businesses, including the Saint Joseph Visitors Bureau have relocated downtown.
